Primer is confusing to many – even me. Someone who is making an attempt at being a beauty blogger. Within an incredibly short amount of time primer suddenly became a staple product for make up connoisseurs to have in their ever-growing collection and was the first step at achieving matte finished, photo ready make up. Due to the overnight hype and demand several people were left wondering if you actually really need primer. What was the purpose, how effective was it and did it have a tendency to clog your pores? Around the same time as the primer boom (circa 2016) a new brand had just launched Milk Makeup and went on to achieve a best selling status by the end of its first year. Now with a proven track record they have added another edition to the primer family: Hydro Grip which is a hydrating gel formula that grips your make up on to your skin while nourishing and hydrating it into another dimension. If you had unwavering doubts before lay them to rest because this is next level make up.

For a make up primer, this has quite a few ingredients that nourish and protect the skin on top of providing hydration and moisture. This product contains Hemp-derived Cannabis Seed extract which is known to hydrate, plump and smooth the skin. The Blue Algae extract gives the formula its distinctive green tint – but do not fear for it blends into the skin clear and is designed to work with all skin tones and types. The algae forms an invisible layer to grip make up for all day hold. Other notable ingredients include Aloe Water, Cherry Blossom, Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin B which are known to boost and support the skin for a healthier looking base. Vitamin B is a well known antioxidant which reduces and prevents the damage of free radicals. This primer works best when you allow one minute for it to fully absorb into the skin and you will immediately radiate a subtle, post hot yoga workout glow.
This product is Vegan. Cruelty free. Paraben free. Talc free. Silicone free. Oil free. Fragrance free. Gluten free.
Extremely small traces and amounts of gluten that are present in beauty and cosmetic products can be absorbed through the skin (and the scalp!) which can cause a reaction in celiac patients, whose gluten sensitivity will vary dramatically from person to person.
This primer ticks all of the boxes in terms of ingredients. They are not relying on silicone which is what primers released in the past have relied so heavily on. Instead they are using organic, naturally sourced ingredients to create an innovative and groundbreaking product which just scored them an Allure Best of Beauty Award in 2019.
Honestly, I was skeptical to try this product. I have used one or two primers in the past that have been ‘raved’ about and been featured on various best seller lists but this has changed the game and for that changed my opinion on primers. A truly innovative product that deserves a place in your make up kit and routine. My skin appears radiant from within every time I use it and I am confident my make up look will last the entire day (or night!) Have you tried the Milk Hydro Grip Primer yet?
